New Volvo S90 Oficially

Volvo has finally unveiled the highly-anticipated S90, at a special event in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Swedish automaker is better known for its SUVs and estates, but now with the launch of the S90 makes a giant step up into the premium sedan segment. The new car is a stylish and attractive sedan with a low roofline, and sits on the same scalable architecture as XC90 SUV, that makes it slightly longer and wider than its predecessor, the S80. The S90 features the same Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights introduced with the XC90, and C-shaped LED taillights at the back.
Inside the new Volvo S90 comes equipped with the Sensus Connect touchscreen for the infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster and minimal amount of buttons.

Under the hood, Volvo S90 will feature the same powertrains as the large SUV XC 90, the same turbocharged and supercharged, hybrid T8 engine setup. The Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid in combination with a four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged 318hp 2-liter gasoline unit with an 80 hp electric motor and a 46 hp crankshaft-mounted starter generator, assumedly will deliver a similar output of around 400 hp as in the XC90. It is assumed that non-hybrid, T6 engine from the XC90 delivering around 300 hp will also be offered, along with a less-powerful a turbocharged T5 variant.

Other technologies will feature Pilot Assist, an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature, that gives “gentle steering inputs” to keep the car properly aligned within lanes up to speeds of around 130 km/h (81 mph). The S90 also introduces a new feature to Volvo’s City Safety system: large animal detection. The system can detect large animals such as elk, horses or moose, night or day, and warns the driver to avoid a collision.
The all-new Volvo S90 for the public will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
